Techniques

Cursed Techniques (呪術式 Jujutsushiki), commonly shortened to simply Techniques (術式 Jutsushiki), are a form of advanced jujutsu that grant the user specialized abilities. If cursed energy is comparable to electricity, cursed techniques are home appliances that use cursed energy to fuel them. Cursed energy can be used as a blunt force, or to reinforce the body, but these applications are not considered cursed techniques. Instead, cursed techniques flow cursed energy into them to carry out a specific function, granting the user a special ability based in jujutsu.

Currently, a character can only possess a maximum of five[5] techniques, which may be a combination of the following.

Innate Techniques

Innate Techniques (生得術式 Shōtoku Jutsushiki) are intrinsic supernatural powers congenitally engraved into a sorcerer when they are born. They generally manifest around the age of five or six and are completely unique to the respective user. All sorcerers and cursed spirit are able to have one [1] innate technique. These techniques cannot be copied in most cases because they require innate talent to possess, however here on JuJu these techniques can be inherited through the mentorship system. For those who possess an innate technique, it is considered to be 80% of their skill set, with innate techniques having many benefits over all others techniques.

• All innate techniques have a x5 efficiency.
  
• Domain Expansion is only possible through one's innate technique.

Here on Juju we encourage creativity and freedom. You can basically give your character any technique you can imagine, whether it be something as simple as wind manipulation or as complex as being unbeatable.

Simple

Simple techniques are your run of the mill straightforward techniques, ie. wind manipulation, super strength, telekinesis, etc.

Complex

Complex techniques are for more untraditional abilities, whether it be having a death touch or being unbeatable. That said, while we aim to encourage freedom and would never turn down a technique no matter how powerful it may seem on paper, keep in mind that complex techniques are going to have greater drawbacks than simple techniques. And it's recommend to think the technique through thoroughly before applying and apply appropriate drawbacks, at least that way you can set your own terms beforehand.

Every character is only allowed one complex technique, which can either be innate or inherited.

Complex techniques occupy two[2] action slots while active.

Inherited Techniques

Inherited Techniques (相伝術式 Sōden Jutsushiki) are innate techniques that can be passed down through the bloodlines of sorcerer families. Here on Juju, through the mentorship system, characters are able to pass on their own innate techniques as inherited techniques to others, which in the long run can essentially lead to the formation of their own family branches where their technique is passed down. Characters are allowed as many inherited techniques as they please so long as they abide by the terms of their mentorship.

• Inherited Techniques have a x4 efficiency.
  
• Due to a binding vow, the inherited technique of a clan head is considered their innate technique and they cannot inherit techniques as this creates a paradox that would results in them losing their status.
  

Barrier Techniques

Barrier Techniques (結界術式 Kekkai Jutsushiki) are the simplest and most common type of cursed techniques and require no innate talent. They allow the user to manipulate and erect barriers that can be used to protect themselves or to trap an opponent, along with other various uses.

Curtain

A basic barrier that turns the sky black and creates a dome that conceals the area from the outside world. Its primary use is to conceal jujutsu related events from civilians and cause curses to reveal themselves.

Simple Domain

"The domain for the weak". Simple Domain is a technique that erects a small barrier around the user to protect them from enemy Domain Expansions.

Domain Expansion

Domain Expansion manifests the user's innate domain and traps their desired target inside the barrier. Their innate technique is amplified and all techniques deployed inside the domain will automatically hit.
Note: As arguably the most dangerous technique in any jujutsu user's arsenal, learning domain expansion fills an additional technique slot.

Heavenly Restriction

Heavenly Restriction (天与呪縛 Ten'yo Jubaku) is a type of cursed restriction that affects someone's cursed energy in exchange for limitations or improvements on their body. Many clans in the jujutsu society imposed heavenly restrictions on all or some of their members either to make them stronger/better or as punishment to illegitimate children. A heavenly restriction can either be partial or full with there being two types of restriction.

• Cursed Restriction
  
  • Partial Restriction: The user's cursed stats are half their invested values (rounded up), however in exchange all their physical stats are double its invested values.
    
  • Full Restriction: The user has absolutely no cursed energy, however in exchange one of their physical stats is triple its invested value. The user's last of cursed energy makes them immune to cursed energy sensing and barrier techniques.

  • Partial Restriction: The user's physical stats are half their invested values (rounded up) or physical disabled (blind, deaf, mute, dyslexic), however in exchange their cursed energy stats are double its invested values.
    
  • Full Restriction: The user is physically paralyzed, however their cursed stats are triple its invested values.
    
  
  

Shikigami Master

Shikigami (式神) are monstrous creatures resembling cursed spirits that are conjured to serve as familiars for jujutsu users. Sorcerers who summon shikigami to aid them in battle are known as Shikigami Masters. Shikigami are age-old creations that gave Onmyodo its origins. These familiar monsters cannot be seen by non-sorcerers and are tamed to be subordinate to their master. They are summoned using mediums like talismans and other methods through a variety of sorcery techniques

Reverse Cursed Technique

Reverse Cursed Technique (反転術式 Hanten Jutsushiki) is a special type of cursed technique that takes cursed energy and reverses it into positive energy. This positive energy can be used to heal wounds as well as to a variety of different effects. Here on JuJu, reverse cursed technique comes in two levels: basic & advanced, both occupy a technique slot and the former must be learned before the latter. Cursed Spirits/Shikigami are naturally in-tuned to cursed energy and can learn advanced without learning basic.

• Basic: At this level, the user can only only use reversed cursed technique to heal others.
  
• Advanced: At this level, the user can now used reverse cursed technique to heal their own wounds.
  

Taijutsu

Hand-to-Hand Combat (体術 Taijutsu) refers to unarmed fighting styles that rely strictly on the abilities of the body. Close-quarters combat generally revolves around basic martial arts and is employed in physical confrontations. Alongside jujutsu, hand-to-hand combat abilities can be a crucial skill for both sorcerers and curses in battle. Techniques used by characters with dedicated skill in taijutsu are x3 more efficient.

Bukijutsu

Exorcism

The only way for a sorcerer to permanently kill a cursed spirit is using an exorcism technique. Here on JuJu performing an exorcism isn't something any and anyone can perform as it requires the technique to be learned, making it something not just any and anyone can do. Having an exorcist on a team is extremely important when undertaking missions, with the Jujutsu Association usually assign at least one per team

Other Techniques

Revealing One's Hand

By divulging the rules of their technique, the user can make their abilities x1 more effective.

One can only reveal how a technique works before using it, after which this loses effectiveness.
